Texas Couple Saves Drowning Dog Then Finds Him A Forever Home

Not all dogs love water. Some can’t wait to get inside a pool, beach, or lake, while others shudder and even have tantrums with the mere mention of a bath. It might not be unusual seeing dogs swimming by the shore, but what is strange is seeing one paddling alone in the middle of a vast lake by its lonesome.

Dove right in

A Texas couple named Quenton and Rebecca Champ was at their home near Lake Houston in Texas, when they heard their neighbors shouting. Rebecca went outside first and saw the neighbors pointing towards the lake. She saw a creature paddling but wasn’t sure. Her husband got some binoculars, and sure enough, there was a dog all alone in the middle of the lake.

Fearing that the dog may not be able to get to the shore, the couple got into their boat and went straight for the dog. When they were near the poor pooch, they saw that it looked exhausted already. They tried calling out to him, trying to get near their boat. But the dog merely swam farther.

Quenton knew that if he didn’t get the dog, there was a good chance that he would drown. So the kind man stripped down to his boxers and dove right in. Quenton had to calm the dog down first. It struggled a bit, but eventually, it allowed itself to be carried and pushed towards their watercraft. Rebecca helped pull the dog in while Quenton pushed from the water.

The dog was shivering and visibly tired. The couple suspected that someone might have thrown the dog over. But lucky for him, a lot of people saw the dog struggling and a kind couple rescued him. They brought the dog back into dry land then into their home. There, they dried the dog off and gave him some food, water, and a name.

They named the dog Freddy, but they knew that they couldn’t keep him. So they posted their story on Facebook, including the dog’s picture. They were hoping that their friends may see it, and someone would adopt Freddy.

And that is what just happened. Their friend, John Hall, saw the post and instantly fell in love with the dog. After talking about adopting the dog with his wife and family, they all went to the couple’s house and took Freddy from them. Freddy’s life was saved in more ways than one.
